About the library

The Library, Art and Archives Collections at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew form one of the largest and most comprehensive resources for botanical literature in the world. The holdings, of both printed and original source material, extend back to the fourteenth century and include most of the important works relating to botany ever published. The books, serials, pamphlets, maps, microforms (including herbaria), paintings, drawings, prints and manuscripts are principally held in the Main Library at Kew, though there are also significant libraries in the Jodrell Laboratory, Millenium Seed Bank and Wakehurst Place. A special collection on all matters relating to Kew the Kewensia Collection is held in the Main Library. Rare books and items from the art collection are displayed in regularly changing exhibitions in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, located in the main gardens.
