      Notes
      • Possibly the original issue. During the same year, this book was issued in two volumes. Of the other extant one volume editions of this book, many of them have a cancel title-page added before the original one, and a second one inserted after p. *288, sig. *T8. The copies where v. 1 retains the original t.p. and has no cancel t.p., such as this one, are probably of the original issue.
      • Front cover is annotated with the words: "This 3rd edition published 19 years after Ray's death, was edited by Dillenius, who modestly declined [prefacing?] his own [resource?] to the book as being a foreigner. It is the only one in general use, being always quoted by Linnaeus, Hudson. Dillenius's own remarks are enclosed between brackets. [Sir?] Jms. E. Smith, preface to English Flora, pp. X. XI. The plates were drawn & engraved by Dillenius".
      • Reverse of title page: Imprimatur: Is. Newton P.R.S., June 25. 1724.
Editor.
