      Summary
      • In "The Christmas Letters," three generations of women reveal their stories of love and marriage in the letters they write to family and friends during the holidays. It's a down-home Christmas story about tradition, family, and the shared experiences of women. Here, in a letter of her own, Lee Smith explains how she was inspired to write this celebrated epistolary novel: Dear Friends, Like me, you probably get Christmas letters every year. I read every word and save every letter. Because every Christmas letter is the story of a life, and what story can be more interesting than the story of our lives? Often, it is the story of an entire family. But you also have to read between the lines with Christmas letters. Sometimes, what is not said is even more important than what is on the page. In "The Christmas Letters," I have used this familiar format to illumine the lives, hopes, dreams, and disappointments of three generations of American women. Much of the story of "The Christmas Letters" is also told through shared recipes. As Mary, my favorite character, says, "I feel as if I have written out my life story in recipes! The Cool Whip and mushroom soup years, the hibachi and fondue period, then the quiche and crepes phase, and now it's these salsa years." I wrote this little book for the same reason I write to my friends and relatives every holiday--Christmas letters give us a chance to remember and celebrate who we are. With warmest greetings, Lee Smith

      Summary
      • Tirtha Amertha, the Ambrosia of Immortality, is a rarely seen episode from the Mahabarata, one of the central epics of Hindu mythology. Nine masked actors/shadowcasters perform with shadowmasters I Waya Wija and Larry Reed. In Ambrosia of Immortality a war rages between the gods, who have it all, and the demons (aka: the former gods) who want it all back. Together they must churn the Milky Ocean to create the elixir of Immortality. The gods and demons succeed at this epic test of faith, but then things go wrong as they struggle for possession of the powerful Ambrosia.

      Summary
      • The Wild Party is a jazz shadow theater piece based on the Beat poem by Joseph Moncure March, with an original jazz score composed by Bruce Forman. The Wild Party explores the American artistic tradition of jazz, film noir, and poetry. Written in 1926, it is a witty, risqué poem about two vaudeville performers who fight, make up, throw a party, and flirt with danger. Feature is interspersed with behind the scenes interviews and production documentation.

      Summary
      • Crooked U.S. soldiers are stationed on an American Army base in West Germany during the waning days of the cold war. Special Fourth Class Elwood guards against the Soviets while on duty, and rips off the U.S. military while off duty. Elwood runs a profitable black-market business that operates just below the official radar. One day, he and his gang uncover some loot that will land them some real money - high-tech military weaponry. As they try to quietly offload the stuff, the new sergeant catches on to the nefarious deeds and sets out to put him out of business. Action-packed comedy...has hilarious things to say about war, sex and why you should never, ever, drive a tank stoned.
