Nick Buckley was an unusual name for a pretty young woman. But then she had led an unusual life. First, on a treacherous Cornish hillside, the brakes on her car failed. Then, on a coastal path, a falling boulder missed her by inches. Later, an oil painting fell and almost crushed her in bed. Upon discovering a bullet-hole in Nick's sun hat, Hercule Poirot decides the girl needs his protection. At the same time, he begins to unravel the mystery of a murder that hasn't been committed. Yet.

      Summary
      • Agatha Christie's famous Miss Marple mystery, reissued with a striking new cover designed to appeal to the latest generation of Agatha Christie fans and book lovers. Lymstock is a town with more than its share of shameful secrets - a town where even a sudden outbreak of anonymous hate-mail causes only a minor stir. But all that changes when one of the recipients, Mrs Symmington, commits suicide. Her final note said 'I can't go on'. Only Miss Marple questions the coroner's verdict of suicide. Was this the work of a poison-pen? Or of a poisoner?

      Summary
      • Agatha Christie's ingenious murder mystery, reissued with a striking new cover designed to appeal to the latest generation of Agatha Christie fans and book lovers. Beautiful Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her husband, yet there were five other suspects: Philip Blake (the stockbroker) who went to market; Meredith Blake (the amateur herbalist) who stayed at home; Elsa Greer (the three-time divorcee) who had roast beef; Cecilia Williams (the devoted governess) who had none; and Angela Warren (the disfigured sister) who cried 'wee wee wee' all the way home. It is sixteen years later, but Hercule Poirot just can't get that nursery rhyme out of his mind...
      • Review: "Despite only five suspects, Mrs Christie as usual puts a ring through the reader's nose and leads him to one of her smashing last-minute showdowns." Observer "The answer to the riddle is brilliant." Times Literary Supplement "A brilliant piece of detective fiction, in which character plays an important part." Daily Telegraph "Straightforward bamboozling from start to finish." New Statesman "As usual, Mrs Christie hoaxes us with a double twist at the denouement, and provides excellent entertainment." Punch "Agatha Christie never fails us, and her Five Little Pigs presents a very pretty problem for the ingenious reader." Manchester Guardian

      Summary
      • Agatha Christie's audacious mystery thriller, reissued with a striking new cover designed to appeal to the latest generation of Agatha Christie fans and book lovers. For an instant the two trains ran together, side by side. In that frozen moment, Elspeth witnessed a murder. Helplessly, she stared out of her carriage window as a man remorselessly tightened his grip around a woman's throat. The body crumpled. Then the other train drew away. But who, apart from Miss Marple, would take her story seriously? After all, there were no suspects, no other witnesses...and no corpse.
      • Review: 'A model detective story, there is never a dull moment.' The Times 'The suspense is agonising.' Daily Mail 'Miraculously fresh from a vintage pen.' Sunday Dispatch 'Without the female of the species, indeed, detective fiction would be in a bad way. Miss Christie never harrows her readers, being content to intrigue and amuse them.' Times Literary Supplement 'The great mistress of the last-minute switch is at it again... even the experts have given up any attempts to out-guess Miss Christie.' New Yorker 'Precisely what one expects: the most delicious bamboozling possible in a babble of bright talk and a comprehensive bristle of suspicion all adeptly managed to keep you much too alert elsewhere to see the neat succession of clues that catch a murderer we never so much as thought of.' Summary
      • Agatha Christie's most ingenious murder mystery, reissued with a striking new cover designed to appeal to the latest generation of Agatha Christie fans and book lovers. The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn, including Jane Marple, are agog with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette which reads: 'A murder is announced and will take place on Friday October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30 p.m.' A childish practical joke? Or a hoax intended to scare poor Letitia Blacklock? Unable to resist the mysterious invitation, a crowd begins to gather at Little Paddocks at the appointed time when, without warning, the lights go out...
      • Review: 'Establishes firmly her claim to the throne of detection. The plot is as ingenious as ever... the dialogue both wise and witty; while the suspense is maintained very skilfully until the final revelation.' A.A. Milne 'As good as Agatha Christie ever wrote.' Summary
      • An old widow is brutally killed in the parlour of her cottage...Mrs McGinty died from a brutal blow to the back of her head. Suspicion fell immediately on her shifty lodger, James Bentley, whose clothes revealed traces of the victim's blood and hair. Yet something was amiss: Bentley just didn't look like a murderer. Poirot believed he could save the man from the gallows - what he didn't realise was that his own life was now in great danger...

Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6.30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank had backfired with tragic consequences. Tommy and Tuppence Beresford were restless for adventure, so when they were asked to take over Blunt's International Detective Agency, they leapt at the chance. After their triumphant recovery of a pink pearl, intriguing cases kept on coming their way: a stabbing on Sunningdale golf course; cryptic messages in the personal columns of newspapers; and even a box of poisoned chocolates.

      Summary
      • A brand new bumper omnibus gathering together 35 classic Agatha Christie stories of murder and suspense. Following the enormous popularity of MISS MARPLE: THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES and HERCULE POIROT: THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES, Agatha Christie's COLLECTED SHORT STORIES gathers together 35 more of Christie's classic short stories of murder and suspense. Comprising stories from five different individual volumes, this edition contains masterpieces of short story writing, including Philomel Cottage, The Hound of Death, While the Light Lasts and Witness for the Prosecution.
      • Review: 'The plots are so good that one marvels ... most of them would have made a full length thriller.' Daily Mirror
      • Review: This collection of 30 short stories has something to please everyone, as the Queen of Crime shows that as well as her classic novels about Poirot and Miss Marple she could write entertaining miniatures with the occasional spine-chilling twist. 'Witness for the Prosecution', which opens the collection, has a classic theme. Everything points to Leonard Vole as the murderer of wealthy Emily French and yet his lawyer starts to believe him innocent. To prove it he undertakes his own investigation which leads to unexpected events in court and the first of the many twists to be enjoyed in this book. Other stories include 'Jane in Search of a Job', in which the eponymous heroine undertakes the demanding task of doubling for a foreign Grand Duchess, 'The Listerdale Mystery', which seems to prefigure the Lord Lucan affair, and 'The Red Signal', a tale of premonition and murder. Many of the stories deal with the supernatural, for example 'The Strange Case of Arthur Carmichael', in which a poisoned man haunts his home as a cat. 'The Last Seance' carries a poignant warning about the misuse of mediumistic powers, and 'The Lamp' shows a child drawn into the world of the spirits. But there is fun here too - in 'The Rajah's Emerald' the hero brings off an astonishing coup as a result of a snub from his girlfriend. Plots are well crafted in true Christie style and the writing is economic as the genre requires but evokes character and period in a satisfying way. Perfect escapism. (Kirkus UK)

      • A beautiful heiress is fatally poisoned in a West End restaurant...Six people sit down to dinner at a table laid for seven. In front of the empty place is a sprig of rosemary - in solemn memory of Rosemary Barton who died at the same table exactly one year previously. No one present on that fateful night would ever forget the woman's face, contorted beyond recognition - or what they remembered about her astonishing life.

He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected also that someone had been blackmailing her. Now, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with a drug overdose. But the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information. Unfortunately, before he could finish the letter, he was stabbed to death...
