About the library
The Library contains a wealth of material, over 400,000 items, ranging from rare, early 16th-Century printed music to standard musical repertoire and from 78 rpm recordings to compact discs and DVDs. The collections of music literature include much rare material as well as all the major encyclopaedias, bibliographies, catalogues and standard works in most musical genres, as well as over 600 music periodical titles.
The Library also subscribes to major collected editions and scholarly anthologies. Among its special collections are the libraries of the Sacred Harmonic Society and the Concert of Ancient Music, as well as more specialised collections of, for example, British manuscripts, hymnology and harp and dance-band music.

Can I see live document availability on Copac? No.
Can I obtain items via Inter-Library Loan? No. We will, however, lend or supply book extracts; choral sets; journal articles; and theses subject to preservation and copyright restrictions. Please see the website for details.
Can I visit the library to view materials? The library is open to researchers and interested visitors who may use it on a reference only basis. Opening hours vary but during term time are as follows: Monday-Thursday 9am-7pm; Friday 9am-5.30pm. To avoid disappointment it is advisable to contact the library beforehand.
