      Notes
      • The "Sixtine edition" of the Vulgate. The Council of Trent had ordered the printing of an accurate edition, but this project "was not ... continuously pursued till the pontificate of Sixtus V. (1585-1590), who ... summoned ... the commission of cardinals and scholars under the presidency of Cardinal Antonio Carafa, and entrusted them with the task, while he himself worked ... at examining the readings ... The result of their labours was this 'Sixtine edition' ... printed by Aldus Manutius the younger ... at the Vatican, the Pope himself revising the proofs. In its text it comes nearer to R. Stephanus' Bible of 1538-40 than to the Louvain editions [first published in 1547]; it differs from both in the complete absence of marginal variants" (D. & M.)

      • "Many errors in the text are emended -- some by pen ... others by means of printed slips pasted over the incorrect words ... M. Hetzenauer states that alterations were made while the work was passing through the press, and that all copies do not agree." (D. & M.)

      Notes
      • Signatures: η⁸, θ⁴, ι-μ⁸, ν⁴, ξ-τ⁸, υ-φ⁶.
      • Imprint information taken from Renouard.
      • The second part of the 1503 edition of Xenophon's Hellenica, reissued ca. 1527, with a new title-page. Gatherings α-ζ, containing the Xenophon are noted in the register but not present.
      • Printer’s devices on title-page and on verso of final leaf. The device on the title-page was in use from 1513-1527; cf. Fletcher, H.G., New Aldine studies: Rosenthal Inc., 1988.
      • In his letter to readers on title-page verso, Franciscus Asulanus explains that the Xenophon has been removed from the original [1503] printing and added to other of his works, in order to produce a complete edition of Xenophon's works. This Xenophontis omnia was issued in April 1525. Hence this Gemistus without the Xenophon must have been issued between 1525 and 1527.
      • Renouard assigns a date of 1527 to the title-page and preface by comparing and matching the typography with that of an Aldine edition of Ulpian known to be from 1527.
      • Colophon reads: Venetiis in Aldi Neacademia mense octobri M. D. III.

Casali points out differences from the characters known to have been used by Marcolini. Casali suggests several possible printers: Nicolini da Sabbio, Comin da Trino, Bindoni and Gardane, and names Comin da Trino as the most likely printer, although he cannot be certain.
