      Physical description
      63, [1] leaves : port. ; 16 cm. (8vo)
      Notes
      • Imprint, taken from colophon (verso of leaf 63)
      • Renouard describes this as one of two counterfeits of the Aldine edition of 1543, one dated 1543 and one dated 1547; both using a different version of the author's portrait. This, and the two verses: "Miraris hospes haud loquentem Cyntium quem cernis ipsum? cogitat, mox audies" are on the title-page recto. Renouard asserts that these verses are always printed on the title-page verso in genuine Aldines. Also, this imprint has 63 numbered leaves, plus one un-numbered, while the genuine Aldine has 62 numbered leaves, plus 2 un-numbered. Also described as a counterfeit by EDIT 16. No printer given; place of publication given as Venice.
      • In the running title on leaves 48v-49r: Atto quinto, the second T in Atto is printed upside down. This is also the case in the 1547 counterfeit.
      • Dedication to Hercule II, Duke of Ferrare is dated: 20 th May, 1541 (xx. di Maggio. M. D. XXXXI.)
      • Signatures: A-H⁸; final leaf is blank.
